All practices and games will be held at the same time and place every week. The Academy format has changed from the last year so please read below.
The Summit Soccer Club offers an Under-7 program commonly known as “The Academy” for players born in 2010 in Summit. The program consists of a one-hour and fifteen minute weekday instructional session, led by professional trainers, and a one-hour weekend game led by trainers and parent volunteers. Games will run for 10 weeks ending in a World Cup tournament.
The Academy is designed to teach soccer techniques to children while they have fun playing the game. All players will follow the same curriculum which is devised based on what players should learn at this particular age.
In the fall and spring games are played in a 4 versus 4 format aimed at giving each child more opportunities to “touch” the ball and play a bigger role in a game.
The format for Fall 2016 and beyond will be as follows:
- Practices – all players in each division will train at the same time i.e. 2009 Boys (U8) will all train in one time slot. This allows for “pool training”, where players will rotate training groups weekly so they are learning from different trainers and being challenged with players of similar ability on a weekly basis.
- Games – all players in each division will play games at the same time. Again allowing for pools of players to play games against each other on a weekly basis. Trainers will move players around week to week to ensure games are developmental and players are getting challenged in games. Games will run for 10 weeks for U7 opposed to the previous half season game schedule.
- Their will be one Academy uniform for all players.
All above changes aim to continue to improve the program with respect to player development, communication and scheduling.
Parents serve as coaches and team managers during the season and you are asked during registration if you are willing to volunteer to coach or serve as a team manager. Parent coaches are not asked to attend during the week and are not required to obtain a coaching license. In addition, time commitment is relatively small, so please consider volunteering for other sports if necessary. All new coaches have to clear a background check before any coaching can commence.
